FORNEY, Texas, July 9 - Walter S. Yates, postmaster at Forney for the last thirty years, died at the family residence Tuesday night. Only recently his picture appeared in The Dallas News as he was being sworn in for the sixth consecutive term. He was born in Ringgold, Ga., March 19, 1865, and came to Forney with his parents and has lived here continuously since that time. He was a charter member of the Christian Church and an elder in the church at the time of his death. He had been a prominent member of the Republican party since early manhood. He had served as a member of the local school board at various times and was a charter member of Lily Lodge No. 76, Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Norwood Yates; one daughter, Mrs. Max G. Olliver of Portland, Maine; two sons, K.F. yates of Dallas and K.E. Yates, assistant postmaster at Forney; three grandchildren, Jack Yates, Maxine Olliver and Fred Yates; two brothers, W.H. yates and J.B. Yates; two sisters, Mrs. L.C. Reagin of Forney and Mrs. R.E. Dick of Harlingen.

The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the Forney Christian Church with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Note: Walter Scott Yates is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery. He was born 19 Mar 1865 and died 8 July 1930.
