Forney, Tex., June 14 - Jim Hanna, colored, who lives on G. Williams' farm two miles west of Forney, reported to the authorities this morning that upon returning from Rockwall County last night, where he had been all week chopping cotton, he found his wife and baby dead.
Justice T.M. Daniel repaired to the place of the occurrence and held an inquest. The facts show that the woman had been stabbed just below the left nipple, inflicting a very deep wound, from which she bled very freely, and that the baby, only a month old, and lying in its mother's arms, had been strangled by the blood.
The woman was murdered some time after 4 o'clock Friday afternoon, as neighbors testify that they saw her about that hour and spoke to her. Two little girls, the eldest 8 years of age, seem to be perfectly ignorant regarding the affair, and state that they found her dead Saturday morning, but played around the house all day and went to bed Saturday night without reporting it.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and was buried by the county authorities today. Sheriff Henderson of Kaufman and local officers are at work on the case.
