Rites Set For Leader At Forney

FORNEY, Texas - Funeral services for H.W. (Henry) Campbell, 66, prominent Forney businessman and civic leader, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martins Church here, with the Rev. Francis Gabryl conducting.

A Rosary service was read in the Campbell home Wednesday evening. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

Campbell died in a Dallas hospital after suffering a heart attack last Friday.

Campbell was born Dec. 23, 1889, in Baytown, Mich. The family moved to Detroit when he was 10 years of age. He was educated there, and made Detroit his home until 1920, when he and his brother came to Texas to establish a Ford agency in Ranger. Two years later he came to Forney. He operated the Campbell Ford Agency here for 34 years.

Campbell was a leader in civic affairs in Forney. He was a mayor for two terms, a member of the city council for 19 years, president of the Chamber of Commerce one term, and served on many important committees for that organization.

He initiated many progressive projects for the community, including the Forney Medical Clinic. He was active in the promotion of good roads and devoted much effort seeking improvements for Highway 80.

He married Miss Rose Buresh of Detroit, Mich. in June, 1911. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose Campbell of Forney; one daughter, Mrs. Norma Gathings of Arlington; two sons, Stuart Campbell of Forney, Gene Campbell of Dallas; and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Pajot, Manchester, Mich., and Mrs. Gladys Berger of Detroit.

Note: According to the Texas Death Index, a Henry William Campbell died on August 27, 1956 in Dallas County.
