David L. Yandell, better known as Lon Yandell, is the genial owner and manager of the Lon Yandell Grocery and Hardware, one of the most modern equipped stores in Forney.
Mr. Yandell was born and reared in Forney. When a small boy he began working in a grocery store after school and on Saturdays, and after graduating from high school in 1925, he was employed in the E.M. Riggs Hardware for seven years. He purchased the N.A. Haynes interest in the Haynes and Boles Grocery store in 1930, and added a hardware department. Mr. Yandell remained in this firm until January 1, 1936, when he sold to Mr. Boles, and on the following month, opened the Lon Yandell Grocery and Hardware Store at 131 Main Street - a store equipped with modern features, including a new Friedrich Floating Air Refrigerator, in addition to a Frigidaire Meat Counter.
Mr. Yandell, a friendly, courteous merchant believes in prompt service to his customers, for he says "The people of Forney and community deserves the best, they demand quality merchandise whether it be fresh vegetables, staple groceries, fresh meats or hardware and I intend to see that they are not disappointed when they come in to my store." He has been assisted by friendly, efficient home town salesmen, Jack G. Venner, Robert Futrell, Harry Richman and Hugh Simms, each having played a conspicuous part in the success of the Yandell business.
