FORNEY, KAUFMAN COUNTY, TEX., July 4. – We did celebrate in fine style. The whole face of the campus was covered with people. The woods and little brush were full of horses and wagons and buggies. Had there been a shower of manna there could not have been more to eat. The day passed gaily and pleasantly, without a jar.
After the speech-making and dinner the ex-Confederates organized by electing R. C. Gillespie, Captain; T. M. Daniel, first lieutenant; P. M. Lewis, second lieutenant; S. G. Fleming, orderly; J. R. Daugherty, quartermaster. One hundred and twenty five were enrolled. They adjourned to meet quarterly.
Note: Rufus C. Gillespie, Tilmon M. Daniel, Pinkney M. Lewis, Solon G. Fleming.
