Charged with Burglary
Two Negroes Arrested on the Charge of Looting a Store
Dallas Morning News
March 3, 1897

On Sunday night the store of the Forney Mercantile company at Forney, Kaufman County, was burglarized and $600 worth of goods carried away. Deputy Sheriff J.M. Williams and M.L. Moore of Forney arrived in the city yesterday in quest of the robbers. Police Officer Ben Brandenburg arrested two young negroes in an East Dallas store. The men broke and ran in different directions. One of the fugitives started east on Pacific avenue, pursued by Deputy Constable Saunderson, Officer Reynolds and other parties. Several shots were fired and the negro ran like a deer. He was captured after a hot chase and gave his name as Will Ferris. Later in the day John Rickland was taken in. The officers visited White Rock and found a large quantity of underwear and clothing in the woods near the Buckner Orphans' Home. Mr. Moore identified the goods as his property.
