Minutes of the Forney First Baptist Church, beginning on Nov 8, 1902.

Nov 8, 1902
After preaching by W.R. SELVIDGE, pastor, the church went into conference. First minutes of last meeting read and adopted. 2nd, On motion and second it was voted unanimously that the pastors salary should be based upon a subscription in the future. Committee to raise back salary and to get new subscriptions. R.P. PINSON, L.L. JONES, W.E. HARVEY.

Adjourned to meet next regular meeting.

After preaching by pastor church met in conference.

1st) Reading of minutes of last meeting which was postponed to next meeting.

2nd) Called for reports of committees. Not ready.

3rd) New business. Whereupon the church called for the election of a deacon on motion and sec. Bro. J.T. MILLER was put in nomination and was unanimously elected by acclimation.

4th) Conference adjourned.

1. Minutes of last meeting read an adopted. On and sec. and motion messengers were elected to the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas which will meet at Dallas Oct 27, 1903. S.L. YARRELL, L.L. JONES, messengers, W.E. HARVEY alternate. No other business ready to come before the church. Adjourned to meet next Tuesday night at prayer meeting.

First Forney Baptist Church met in conference at prayer meeting Tuesday night.

1. Elected Bro. W.E. YATES moderator.

2. On motion and second, Bro. W.R. SELVIDGE was elected messenger to the East Fork Association instead of Bro. J.H. CONNOR.

3. Associational letter was adopted as read with privilege allowed the clerk to fill out blanks for minutes mission and carried.

After preaching by W.R. SELVIDGE church went into conference.

1. Called for acknowledgement. None.

2. Minutes of last meeting read and adopted.

3. Reports of committee. None.

4. Letter granted Miss Lelia YARRELL.

A motion was made and seconded that in as much as Bro. SELVIDGE had announced that he would resign tomorrow after preaching. We believing today being the proper time that he resign today instead of tomorrow. Motion and second carried. Bro. SELVIDGE resigned unconditionally to take effect 2nd Sunday in Nov. 1903. We agreeing to see that a back occur mulation on salary of $141.00 is paid or arranged for. Resignation accepted by a vote of 16 to 2. Sixteen in favor of accepting resignation and two in favor of regetioy(?) it or against it on motion and sec. Adjourned.

Oct 20, 1903

After prayer meeting church was called into conference. On motion and sec. Bro. W.E. YATES was elected moderator. On motion and sec. Bro. FITCHE was nominated as an alternate delegate to Baptist Missionary Association who declined the nomination on account of not having gotten his letter from El Paso. He did not think he was eligible, so Bro. J.E. SOUTH or wife were then nominated and elected. It was announced that we would call a pastor or consider a call on next regular conference Saturday before the second Sunday in Nov. 1903. On motion and second adjourned.

Nov 7, 1903

After preaching by Bro. SCOTT, a motion was made that Bro. S.L. YARRELL act as moderator. Motion and election carried.

1. Reading of minutes of last meeting which were adopted.

2. Called for unfinished business which brought the question and report of back salary. Report a balance behind of $98.10.

3. Motion and sec. that we go into the election of a pastor for next year. Bro. P.C. SCOTT was put in nomination. Election was taken by ballot and Bro. SCOTT was elected by a majority of 22 to 1, which was made unanimous at the request of the opposing voter.

4. On motion and sec. a committee was appointed to get up subscriptions for salary for Bro. SCOTT and to collect back salary of Bro. SELVIDGE and to report Tuesday night next at prayer meeting.

Committee as follows: W.E. HARVEY, A.A. DARDEN, A. HAWKS, J.T. MILLER, W.R. CRITTENDEN, W.E. YATES, and Dr. JONES, Sisters CONNOR and JONES, DAILEY, Irene HATLEY, Nellie YATES and KEMP. On Motion and sec. Miss Minnie STRICKLAND was granted a letter of dismission. Adjourned.

After service by pastor the church met in conference.

1. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

2. References when committee on resolutions of Decorum was called
for. This committee not being ready to report. The present pastor Bro. P.C. SCOTT was added to the committee by vote of the church instead of Bro. W.R. SELVIDGE.

3. On motion and sec. the balance of the incidental collection of Sid
WILLIAMS meeting was allowed to be placed to Dr. JONES credit for church indebtness to him on cistern and repairs of parsonage.

4. A committee was appointed to finish raising Bro. W.R. SELVIDGE
back salary. Committee as follows: J.F. YATES, R.P. PINSON, James A. COOLY, L.L. JONES and O.L. WILEY.

5. On motion and second, a committee consisting of the deacons:
J.T. MILLER, W.E. YATES with A.A. DARDEN added were appointed to investigate some differences that exist between Dr. Wm.
GARRETT and Bro. W.H. ANDERSON.

6. On motion and sec. Sister Jessie DAILEY, Bro. S.L. YARRELL, W.E. HARVEY and Bro. P.C. SCOTT were appointed to prepare resolutions of respect for Bro. H.J. CONNOR deceased and present to church at next regular conference on motion adjourned.

Feb 13, 1904

1. After service by pastor church met in conference and opportunity was given for membership and the following were received upon recommendation of letters: Sister Carrie REEVES, Bro. P.C. SCOTT,
and wife Rose SCOTT.

2. Minutes of last meeting read and adopted.

3. Committee to raise back salary of Rev. W.R. SELVIDGE granted more time to report.

4. Committee to settle differences between Bro. ANDERSON and GARRETT asked for more time which was granted.

5. Request from executive board read and on motion Rev. P.C. SCOTT
was elected board member.

6. Church discussed the beginning of series of meetings and all were in
favor of commencing a meeting no further business. Conference adjourned.

After preaching by pastor the church met in conference.

1. Minutes of last meeting read and adopted.

2. Report of meeting beginning Feb. 13, 1904 and continuing to March 6 was as follows: A glorious meeing with ten additions by letter and one by Experience, yet a candidate for Baptism. Sister Carrie REEVES, Bro. P.C. SCOTT and wife Rose, Bro. M.P. Hudson, Mrs. Alice H. HUDSON, Bro. T.E. HOLT, Miss Farry WILCOX, Bro. Frank FOWLER, T.E. MOORE a candidate for baptism. Report received and a [sic].

3. Motion and sec. committee standing appointed to raise balance of W.R. SELVIDGE's back salary be discharged and a new committee appointed, which resulted in the election of Bro. P.C. SCOTT and J.T. MILLER. Subscription started which was raised to $22.50
on the spot.

On motion and sec. the committee appointed to investigate difference between Bro. Wm. GARRETT and W.H. ANDERSON be discharged and the matter dropped. The committee to get up rules of decorum was abolished by vote after a motion and sec.

A committee was appointed to see Sister Nellie YATES who is reported to have been dancing, and Miss Indy WATERS, W.E. YATES and L.L. JONES com. On motion and sec. church withdrew fellowship from Bro. Wiley BALL for heresy.

On motion, adjourned.

Apr 9, 1904

1. Offered an opportunity for membership.

2. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

3. Committee on W.R. SELVIDGE salary balance request more time.

4. Report of committee to see Miss Inda Waters is that she says she has fully decided dancing is wrong and has already quit and ask church to forgive her and she will not do so any more. On motion and sec. she was forgiven and restored to good standing and full fellowship.

4(sic). Committee to see Miss Nellie YATES report that she has no apologies to make and she request fr the church to deal with her as it sees fit and right to do. On motion and second the church withdrew fellowship from her.

5. On motion and sec. the church withdrew fellowship from Bro. Will STRAYLEY for drunkeness.

6. On motion and sec. programme for fifth Sunday as arranged by Bro. P.C. SCOTT and S.L. YARRELL was adopted.

7. On motion and sec. adjourned.

The Fifth Sunday meeting convened at the appointed time Friday before Fifth Sunday in May. The programme was carried out as announced. Attendance very good and meeting very profitable.

3. Motion and sec. that the church assist the Lady of the Aid Society
in securing money for the purpose of seating First Forney Baptist Church. A vote was carried to buy seats.

4. Motion and sec. to suspend regular order and elect pastor by acclamation which carried and Bro. P.C. SCOTT was put in nomination and unanimously elected. Motion and sec. adjourned.

After preaching by pastor the church met in conference.

1. Open doors of church Miss Grace ADAMS was received by letter.

2. Minutes of last meeting read and second which was carried to by seats the minutes were adopted.

3. Motion and sec. to appoint a committee to meet Ladys Aid Society to confer with Bro. SAMS in regard to buying seats. Committee R.P. PINSON, J.T. MILLER, E.J.ELY and L.L. JONES and P.C. SCOTT.
