Forney, Texas, Oct 15 – W. H. Yates ,67, retired farmer and one-time Alderman, died at his home Monday evening after a brief illness.
Born in Georgia. Yates came to Forney in 1875 and had lived here since. Surviving are his wife ; two daughters, Mrs. Philip Payne of Scarsdale, N. Y., and Miss Gladys Yates of Forney; one brother, John Yates of Forney, and two sisters, Mrs. L. C. Reagan of Forney and Mrs. Ernie Vick of Houston. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of Mrs. Payne.

Funeral services for William H. Yates, 67, of Forney, who died Monday at a local hospital, will be held at Forney at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Yates was born at Ringgold, Ga., and came to Texas with his parents when he was 7 years old. He attended Baylor and took a business course in Fort Worth. He was in partnership with his father, J.F. Yates, who operated the first hardware store at Forney about thirty five years ago. Later he engaged in the hay business. In 1890 he served as a member of the City Council. For a number of years he served as a director and vice president of the City National Bank of Forney, now merged with another institution. He was a member of the Christian Church for many years.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Payne of New York and Gladys Yates of Forney; a brother, John B. Yates of Forney; two sisters, Mrs. Zada Reagin of Forney and Mrs. Lucille Dick of Houston, and two grandchildren, Philip and Sara Payne of New York.
Note: William Hackett Yates is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery.
