FORNEY, Kaufman County, Texas, October 11, 1874
To the Editor of the Dallas Herald:
SIR – Considerable excitement prevailed here today, caused by the finding of the dead body of a man, about three miles northeast from this place in a prairie ravine, covered up with the dirt out of a shallow well that had been dug. He is supposed to have been killed some five or six days ago. The man is supposed to be by the name of William Nahen, a German, and was engaged with another party in cutting hay. A coroner’s inquest was held and a verdict rendered. The perpetrator is unknown, but a party suspicious is now under arrest. Mr. Nahen is supposed to be an Odd Fellow, and came from California to this county.
Respectfully, “LITTLE BOY”
