Dr. Sowell Dies in His Home at Forney
Veteran Physician and Member of Sanitarium Staff Succumbs

FORNEY, Kaufman Co. , Texas Sept 14 – Dr. L. B. Sowell, 53 years old, one of the most prominent physicians in this section, died suddenly at his home here at 6 o’clock Sunday evening. At noon he had been attending to professional duties. At 3 p.m. he complained of a pain in his chest. Physicians were called left Dr. Sowell laughing and chatting with his family, seemingly recovered. He died a few hours later.
Dr. Sowell had been a practioneer here for more than thirty years. His wife was Miss Pauline Rugel, daughter of a well-known banker of Mesquite, Dallas County, who with the couple’s five children survive him.
Dr. Sowell was a Royal Arch Mason, an elder in the Presbyterian Church, local surgeon for the Texas and Pacific Railway and a member of the staff of the Forney Sanitarium.
The Funeral will be held Tuesday.
Note: Leonidas B. Sowell is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery next to his wife Pauline.
