Banker at Forney Dies After Brief Illness

Forney, Texas. March 16- J. M. Davis Sr. banker and one of the largest land owners in this county, died here at 6 o’clock this morning after a brief illness.  Mr. Davis was born in Alabama Aug. 27, 1827.  He came here in 1872 and resided here ever since.  He was married in 1866 to Miss Tina H. Peagler, who survives him.  He is survived by four children as follows:  Mrs. Bessie Portwood , Houston; Mrs. Jennie Finley, Roswell, N. M; Miss Allie Davis and J. M. Davis Jr. , Forney.  He was a confederate veteran and served in the Ninth Alabama Regiment .  He was a member of the Christian Church.  The funeral will be held from the residence of his son at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning.
