Mrs. Townsend, 81, Dies at Her Home

Mrs. S.T. Townsend, 81, a resident of Dallas for six years, died Friday afternoon, after a long illness, at her home, 411 North Hill.
A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Townsend moved to Forney about fifty-six years ago and lived in and around Forney before moving to Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Forney. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery there.
Surviving are four sons, Floyd Townsend, Henry Townsend and Claude Townsend of Dallas, and Lonnie Townsend, Josephine, Collin County; three daughters, Mrs. Birdie Cowart and Mrs. Jessie Nalls of Dallas, and Mrs. Ethel Pannell of Irving; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Anderson & Clayton in Forney is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Claudia C. Townsend, former resident of Forney for many years, passed away in Dallas Friday afternoon. The body was returned to Forney to the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home and will repose there until the funeral hour. Services will be held in the First Baptist church in Forney at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. L.B. Jenkins officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the interment will be in the Hillcrest cemetery in Forney.
Claudia Cornelia Townsend was born in 1883 [See Note] and remained a resident there until six years ago when she moved to Dallas to make her home.
She was a member of the Southern Crest Baptist Church in Dallas.
She married S.T. Townsend on September 20, 1887 and to this union 12 children were born. Her husband and five children preceded her in death and she is survived by: four sons, Henry Townsend, Floyd Townsend and Claude Townsend, all of Dallas, Lonnie Townsend, of Josephine, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Nalls and Mrs. Birdie Cowart of Dallas, Mrs. Ethel Pannel of Irving; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Taylor of Forney; other relatives and many friends.
Note: Mrs. Townsend’s death certificate shows she was born 1 December 1870.
