DURANT, Okla., Jan. 12 – The bronze Carnegie medal recently awarded to Mrs. Richard A. Lyons of this city now on display here. Mrs. Lyons was awarded the medal for attempting to save the life of Henry C. Folsom, a 14-year-old boy, from drowning in Blue river near Armstrong, Okla. At that time Mrs. Lyions was Miss Hazel Riter of Forney, Texas. She was a member of a picnic party near Armstrong when young Folsom got beyond his depth while bathing in the river. Miss Riter went to his rescue and held him up until they were rescued. Both were unconscious when pulled from the water, but were resuscitated.
With the medal Mrs. Lyons is given $1,000 in money, which must be used for some worthy purpose, such as the building of a home, education or other purpose approved by the Carnegie commission.
