Forney, Texas, Nov. 12. — Armistice Day will long be remembered by Forney people. All Places of business were closed by proclamation of Mayor Duke, and the townspeople, with the surrounding districts, made the day a gala occasion.
A school parade, leaving the schoolhouse at 10:30 o’clock and parading through town, was the feature of the morning’s entertainment. The pavement had been roped off, and a pageant of the Allied Nations, folks dances, boy scout drills, girl scout demonstrations and demonstrations by schools of surrounding communities were staged in the enclosure. A Gypsy dance, given by Velma Adams and Dick Moore Jr., a talented violinist of Forney, received quite an ovation from the crowd, who showered them with coins.
At the conclusion of the program, the audience joined the school in an enthusiastic singsong, after which a bountiful dinner was spread on tables which had been placed in the enclosure. The townspeople entered heartily into the spirit of the occasion and did their utmost to make their visitors feel at home.
A football games between Commerce and Forney high school teams was called at 2:30 o’clock and attracted an unusually large crowd. Forney won 55 to 0.
The day was concluded with a community singsong, the music for which was furnished by Mrs. J. F. Bates and the student orchestra directed by her. Both Forney and the surrounding communities fully enjoyed the day and hope to make it an annual hereafter.
