Portrait of Essie B. Crosby

Miss Essie B. Crosby was born in Forney and lived in the community all her life. She graduated from Booker T. Washington School in Dallas in 1936 and subsequently attended several universities, furthering her education.

Miss Crosby taught first grade in the old Booker T. Washington School and later taught special education in the integrated Forney Elementary School. She retired after 38 years of service to the children of Forney.

In addition to her service to the school children of Forney, she served as financial secretary of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Forney for 30 years. With her mother’s help, she reared her niece and nephew, Gloria and Edward Crosby who still live in Forney.
